My middle son, Andrew, likes to send me random text messages. Sometimes these messages are serious like his take on he Serenity Prayer. Other times I find them quite humorous like the time he texted me, " I just started using a calendar. I'm growing up!" ( he was 22 at the time of that text) A few months ago, he texted me, " Be the fruit loop in a world full of Cheerios." I loved that text. What a wonderful sentiment! The world needs more fruit loops.
Seriously, that's my message go for the week. Embrace what makes you different. If you are a Trekkie nerd, own it. You happen to a flair for the retro sixties style, wear it! If you have a movie quote for every situation, let's hear it. Do you hear a different drum? March to it. I had a friend in high school tell me, that not only did she hear a different drum, she felt she was in a whole other band. I've always admire that statement. Now there's a girl who definitely embraced her uniqueness.
And while you are at it, embrace the diversity in others. I have so many friends that are nothing like me. My world has been richly blessed by these differences. I can honestly say, I have a bunch a fruit loops for friends. I'm so glad these friends looked past what could have divided us and let me in their lives. When I look at Facebook, it strikes me the world would be a kinder place if everyone could get past differences they see in others. So what if someone doesn't share your political views, race, faith, or taste in music. Be a friend. Just because you are a fabulous fruit loop doesn't mean everyone has to be one. There are some pretty nice Lucky Charms out there. And for the record, I happen to like Cheerios too, 😊
Thanks for stopping by and reading my ramblings,
Susan
